Marian Donalda “Donna” Dawes (née Webb) of Alix, Alberta passed away in Red Deer, Alberta on May 11, 2026 at the age of 99 years. Donna was born in Consort, Alberta on January 29, 1927 to Garfield and Nellie Webb. She was the middle child of the family, having an older brother and a younger sister.

Donna was a smart, strong, independent, no-nonsense kind of woman, she "told it like it is". Growing up in the "dirty thirties" taught her that nothing went to waste, and she carried on that way of living throughout her entire life. Even table scraps didn't get thrown out, they went to a friend's cat! She was always baking something delicious, the freezer was hardly ever void of baked goods. She was a frugal woman, didn't splurge on herself, but did donate to many charities over the years. She also volunteered at the Alix Drop In Center too many times to count.

She grew a large garden, and ate and canned what she grew, nothing went to waste. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and writing in a daily journal. She also made hand-crafted leather-work and hundreds of fortrel rugs. She would sell these hand-made items for a modest price. Each item was made with passion and love, which was reflected in each piece. Her home-made rugs, afghans and wallets were beautiful; she even made the cutest little saddles! In her younger days, she came into Red Deer to attend dances; Even though she found the music too loud, she really enjoyed the dances.

Donna had a strong and unwavering faith, which was reflected in her everyday life. She was a devoted member of her church and attended almost every Sunday, until her health prevented her from doing so. Her church family was the cornerstone of her life, and they were a community of dear, life-long friends.

Donna is survived by her nieces Barb Longacre, and Brenda Brown of Red Deer; as well as by her nephew Rick (Joni) Webb, also of Red Deer. She was predeceased by her parents Garfield and Nellie Webb; brother Earl Webb; sister Maxine (Deryl) Longacre; nephew Patrick Webb; and by her niece Shelley Lake-Felsch.

A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at the Alix Evangelical Free Church, located at 4619 Lake Street, Alix AB, on Saturday, June 27 at 1:30 PM.
