Obituary of Laura Eileen Evans

Laura Eileen Evans of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on February 22, 2024 at the age of 100. 


Laura was born in Central Butte, Saskatchewan, and was raised on the family farm in the Robin Hood Area of Saskatchewan. She married Fred Evans on July 14th, 1945. She lived in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan for a period before moving to Red Deer.

Gigi enjoyed knitting, weaving, crocheting, all crafts, and loved bingo. She enjoyed all family activities like camping and traveling, and she was a number one Edmonton Oilers Fan!

She is lovingly remembered by her loving daughter Sheila Colenutt; sons Dennis Evans (Carol), Albert (Cheryle June) Evans, Laurie (Shelley) Evans, and Kevin (Debbie) Evans; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother Bruce Hatley (deceased February 25, 2025); and by numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

She was predeceased by her husband Fred in 2011; father Herbert Hatley, mother Mable Gregory (Hatley); sister Beatrice Leslie; brothers Jim Hatley and Austin Hatley; son Barry Evans; and by her son-in-law Gerald Colenutt.

An interment for Laura will be held at a later date in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Condolences to Laura’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Evans” in the subject line.
