Grant Patterson

Obituary of Grant Niel Patterson

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Grant Niel Patterson, of Leduc, Alberta on Tuesday February 18, 2025, at the age of 72 in his home surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Grant was born on August 16, 1952, in Mayerthorpe, Alberta to George (Pat) and June Patterson. He was the middle of three boys and one of twelve siblings on his father’s side. Grant spent most of his childhood and early teens in and around Fort Assiniboine with a short time in Josephburg. He left home as a teenager to begin his journey that eventually led him to his career in trucking in the Alberta Oil Patch – which is where his legacy will remain from both owning and operating many successful businesses. Grant has mentored and worked along side some of greatest in the industry today.

Grant was a loving husband, cherished father, adored papa, grandpa, and a trusting friend to all who knew him. Grant dedicated his life to his family, instilling values of love and hard work in his children. He was a man of great integrity and always ready with a listening ear or helping hand. His unwavering support and guidance shaped his family into who they are today. His legacy will live on forever in their hearts.

Throughout his life, Grant had a passion for the outdoors. This led him to log many miles in the coach, drive for the perfect golf game, hit the drifts on his skidoo and fly high in his Cessna Thumper. Grant also had a gift when it came to animals – whether it be his shop cats, dachshunds or his horses. Whenever Grant was around an animal his love was contagious. In his own words, he could “tame any beast”.

Grant is survived by his wife Barb, his daughters Sarina Patterson and her daughters Miranda (Matt) and Marissa, Trisha Shewchuk (Mike) and their son Reid, Trina Olson (Rob) and their daughters Hailey and Santana, and Christina Patterson. Grant is also survived by his four great grandchildren, his brother Gilbert Patterson and his mother-in-law Simone Franks. He is predeceased by his mother Emily Patterson, father George Patterson, brother Craig Patterson and nine half siblings.

A memorial service of Grant’s life will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Leduc Fellowship Church, 4401 Rollyview Road, Leduc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the charity of your choice.
