Obituary of Timothy Conrad Degenhardt
Timothy Conrad Degenhardt of Red Deer, Alberta, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on March 28, 2025, at the age of 67 years.
Tim was born on January 2, 1958, in Estavan Saskatchewan, as the oldest child to Conrad and Irene Degenhardt. The family moved around for work before settling in Goodsoil Saskatchewan, in 1967. Tim attended school in Goodsoil until grade 11, when he quit and left home to pursue work in road construction. His work led him to various jobs some of which being farming, rig hand, plumbing, and backhoe operator. Tim worked his way to owning and operating his own backhoe business, which he was very proud of. In 1981, Tim began his forever career with the city of Edmonton, where he worked as a labourer. Through his hard work and tenacity, Tim worked his way up to manager of wastewater operations with Red Deer County EPCOR when he retired in 2018. He was a man of his word and hard work ethic.
Throughout the above journey, Tim met the love of his life Colleen, in 1976, via Christine who is Tim’s cousin and was Colleen’s coworker. In 1977, Tim and Colleen married, and their life of love, happiness, and family began. In 1979, they welcomed their first daughter, Crystal, and over the course of 7 years they welcomed Melissa and Dawn.
Throughout his life Tim was an adventurous man, however, retirement allowed him the most time to pursue his passions of traveling, fishing, riding his motorcycle, playing cards, and spending all his spare time with his family, especially his 3 grand kiddos who were the light of his life. Tim was a family man through and through. He always “showed up” whether it be a house repair, sports game, school event, or an ear to chat. You could always count on him.
Tim, known as “papa,” was the light of his grandchildren’s life. He was the jokester, the activity do-er, and teacher. Tim often took them on walks where he would tell stories and collect bottles – because heaven forbid, he walked past 10 cents.
Tim had friends far and wide and welcomed all into his life. It wasn’t unusual for him to extend an invite to friends for them to attend a family event or holiday meal. Without a doubt Tim has left a mark on so many people and will be deeply missed beyond words.
While his journey on earth is over, we know he will continue to live on within us.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the team at the Central Alberta Caner Center for their knowledge, attention, and care towards Tim.
Tim will be lovingly remembered by his spouse, Colleen; daughters, Crystal, Melissa (Brydon), Dawn (Jason); grandchildren, Jackson, Charlie, Joey; brothers, Patrick (Corrine), Matthew (Irene), Chri (Linda), Greg (Carolyn), Brad (Wendy); sister, Bernadine, as well as other family and friends. Tim was predeceased by his parents, Conrad and Irene; father-in-law, Charlie; brother, Valentine; and his sister, Jennifer.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Tim’s honor at the Westerner in the Heartland Room (4847A 19 Street, Red Deer AB) on April 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Alberta Cancer Foundation (Central Alberta Cancer Center) by phone at 1-866-412-4222 or by indicating on the memo field of a cheque.
