Douglas Fix

Obituary of Douglas Charles Fix

Doug passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at Villa Marie Long Term Care in Red Deer with family at his side, at the age of 76 years from complications of diabetes.

He was born in Stettler on January 15, 1949, to Charlie and Dorothy Fix. Doug attended school in Stettler and briefly went to NAIT before he got his dream job in radio in Dawson Creek, BC. In 1970, he moved to radio station CHAB in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. There he met and married Sheila Holden. In 1972, he and Sheila made a permanent move to Red Deer with their young son Guy.

Doug worked in radio and television most of his life. He was the morning voice of CKRD for years and later relished hosting his Oldies Show on Sunday afternoons. In his later years he produced commercials and on-hold messages for various businesses. He really loved his job and certainly had the gift of gab! Doug had a love of classic cars, driving around Red Deer in the summertime, alternating between his Ford Galaxy and Thunderbird.

Doug was predeceased by his wife Sheila of 51 years in August 2021.  He is survived by his son Guy (Robin) Fix of BC, sister Elaine (Don) Lang of Red Deer, brother Garry (Grace) Fix of Stettler, and sister Lorna (Lyle) Watts of Red Deer; also nephews Jonathan (Alice) Lang of Red Deer, Christopher (Rebecca) Lang of Brentwood Bay BC, Blair (Emily) Fix of Edmonton, Stuart (Meg) Fix of Edmonton, his niece Dana (Sandy) Clancy of Fulshear TX, and nephew Clint (Denise) Watts of Penhold.

He was Great-Uncle Doug to Matthew and Michael Lang, Henry Lang, Petra Fix, Owen and Phoebe Fix, Brant (Lexi) and Bronson Clancy, Chaz and Deah Watts and Great-Great Uncle Doug to Hazel Clancy.

At Doug's request there will be a private family interment in Stettler.

Doug’s siblings are deeply grateful to the exceptional staff of Red Deer Regional Hospital for the excellent medical care and many kindnesses he received in all units during the times he was in hospital.

Sincere thanks also to the wonderful staff at Villa Marie for their compassionate care, patience and continued support for Doug during his time there. Condolences to Doug’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Doug Fix” in the subject line.
