Obituary of David Michael Oliver
David Michael Oliver passed away peacefully following a brief illness passed away on April 27, 2025 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre with his bother peter and sister-in-law Joyce at his side. He was 63 years of age.
David was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and called Edmonton his home for most of his life, even having lived in Vancouver and Calgary for a period of time. David’s love for the outdoors was equal to his love for music; playing his guitar in open jams and volunteering for Folk Festival, he had a T-shirt for every one of the 26 years he had volunteered. He also loved listening to music, particularly the “oldies”. David won many radio trivia contests, giving correct answers to obscure one hit wonders from the 70s.
David travelled to the Yukon to visit his sister, Mary Jane, many times over the past 30 years. He loved the Yukon and had countless adventures with MJ and her family every trip. From fishing to white water rafting, hiking up mountains, snowmobiling, and skiing and biking; He was always up for anything Mary Jane threw at him and then would complain he needed to go home and rest from his vacation with her.
David had an avid interest in the stars. With his telescopes he would capture the latest heavenly happenings, being able to point out any constellation you queried.
David was self employed for most of his life, specializing in eaves troughing, siding, and outside building repairs. His ability to hang off the edge of a roof in any weather was something to see.
He never married, but had a deep connection with his family, being there if anyone called on him to help move, help or hang out. David was very independent and after losing some of his close brothers and sister, he moved to Irma, Alberta. He is survived by his brothers John and Peter, and by his sisters Marty (Martha) and Mary Jane.
David was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Oliver; brothers Sidney, Timothy, Byron, Mark, and Kevin; and by his sister Theresa.
David will be sadly missed but always be remembered.
In following with David's wishes, a private family graveside service will take place.
Condolences to David’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “David Oliver” in the subject line.
