Sarah Margaret Rumsey of Red Deer County, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Hospice on August 4, 2025 at the age of 74 years. Sarah was born, raised, and educated in Smiths Falls, Ontario. She met Stephen Douglas Rumsey (Doug) and they were married on December 21, 1973. They moved to Red Deer, AB in 1975 so that Sarah could continue her career as a rehabilitation councillor for individuals with developmental disabilities; She spent 45 years working in this field. Sarah was an associate member/volunteer of the Royal Canadian Legion, Red Deer branch #35 since 1989, and was Act/Uct of the Red Deer Council #1021 since 2006.

Margaret’s family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at the Red Deer Hospice who made her remaining days comfortable.

Margaret is lovingly remembered by her spouse of 51 years, Stephen Douglas Rumsey; son Anthony (Tony) Rumsey (Leani, Keane) of Red Deer, AB and step-son Kevin Rumsey of Whitehorse, Yukon; one grandchild; two brothers, Jamie Slack (Ginny) of Kingston, Ontario, and Bill Slack (Rebecca) of Grande Prairie, AB. Margaret is also remembered by numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces and her life long friend, Sharon.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Flora Slack, sister Barbara McNeely, and by her son, Christopher Michael Rumsey.

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #35, located at 2810 Bremner Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, Alberta, or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
