Timothy Lou Quesnel Obituary

Tim was born in the Red Deer Hospital on September 25, 1957, the third child in an Air Force family. Throughout his childhood, Tim moved multiple times with his family. In 1961, they moved to Clinton, Ontario, followed by a transfer to Moisie, Quebec, where Tim began school in 1962. The family returned to CFB Penhold in July 1964. In June 1966, they moved again to Radar Station Puntzi Mountain, BC, before returning to CFB Penhold in 1967. In 1971, when their father retired from the Air Force, the family settled permanently in Red Deer. Tim continued to live in Red Deer from that time onward, though he fondly remembered the places visited, roads travelled, sights seen, and friends made during his early years.

Tim attended Camille J. LeRouge High School, where he began shaping his future career through a work experience program with a fledgling car dealership known as Red Deer Toyota. He later attended Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School and, in his final year, participated in the Automotive program while continuing his work at Red Deer Toyota.

Tim received his Journeyman Certificate from NAIT in January 1979 and was welcomed as an apprentice at Red Deer Toyota. During the economic downturn of the early 1980s, Tim was able to find employment with Kipp Scott Motors Ltd., where he gained valuable experience and a lasting respect for Mr. Kipp Scott. Once the economy improved, Tim returned to Red Deer Toyota, where he worked for over 30 years.

Throughout his career, Tim participated in several national skills competitions and earned the designation of Master Technician during the program’s inception. More importantly, his work ethic and strong dedication to quality customer service both created friendships and a loyal customer base throughout his working life with Red Deer Toyota and, in his later years, working for Communications Group Red Deer and BearCom Canada.

Tim had a lifelong love of machines and motors. He was involved in motorcycling, cars, boating, bathtub racing, and snowmobiling - if it had a motor, Tim wanted to drive it, understand it, and fix it.

He was also an active member of the Red Deer Fish and Game Association and the broader shooting community. Tim gave generously of his time, always willing to learn, teach, help, and share his enthusiasm for life in Central Alberta.

It was during one such event that Tim met Monica, who shared his life for over 25 years. Together they enjoyed road trips and volunteered for various community organizations close to their hearts.

Tim first faced cancer in 2006 and lived with strength, faith, and gratitude through both the good times and the challenging periods of treatment and surgery. Tim and Monica enjoyed many good years together, despite the diagnosis, until the final few weeks when Tim began to slow down. Even during his last hospital stays, Tim often said, “We’ve sure had the opportunity to meet the nicest people.”

Tim passed away peacefully with Monica at his side on a sunny summer afternoon at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on August 27, 2025.

He is survived by his siblings: Mike (Jan) Quesnel of Calgary, Carol Watrin of Red Deer, and Pat (Michele) Quesnel of Red Deer. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews: Candace Watrin (Edmonton), Shane Watrin (Red Deer), Christopher Quesnel (Edmonton), Michael Quesnel (Cochrane), Andrew Quesnel (Edmonton), and Nicola Quesnel (Red Deer), and great-nephew Liam Watrin (Red Deer).

Monica and Tim’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the frontline healthcare staff in our community—especially the medical, nursing, and support staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and Red Deer Home Care—for the compassionate care Tim received.

A funeral mass for Tim will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church (6 McMillan Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 5X8) on Friday September 19th starting at 11:00 AM. For any unable to attend the service in person, a live stream of the service will be available at https://www.stmarysparishreddeer.ca/livestream.
