Harold “Fudd” Carl Fjallman passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre on October 1, 2025 at the age of 82 years.

Born in Lacombe to Karl and Evelyn Fjallman, Fudd developed a passion for cars at an early age, a love he shared with his father. In 1951, his family relocated to Red Deer, where he attended North Hill, Central, and Lindsay Thurber schools. It was during these school years that he earned the nickname "Fudd," a result of the frequent mispronunciation of his Swedish surname. The name stuck, and he was known as Fudd by everyone throughout his life.

He earned his plumbing and gas fitter certification at SAIT in Calgary, apprenticing with FM Hayhoe Plumbing and Heating in Red Deer. Over the years, he worked at Central Alberta Dairy Pool, Honeywell Industries, and later at Michener Centre, where he served as Maintenance Supervisor. Although Fudd officially retired in 2010, he continued to lend a hand with plumbing and gas issues well into his later years. He was never too busy to help with a furnace, sink, or toilet… he could fix anything!

Cars especially hot rods were Fudd’s true passion. He built 13 of them, with his final project completed just last fall. He was also a well-known figure in drag racing circles across Canada and the U.S., where he spent several years working with a racing team.

In addition to cars, Fudd loved hockey and developed an interest in baseball in his later years. He and his wife Dianne attended several Blue Jays games, often making the trip in one of his hot rods.

Fudd is survived by his wife Dianne; granddaughter Brianne; Jody Fjallman; Natalie Brooks; Bianca Bedford and other extended family members. He was predeceased by his son Jason; first wife Shelagh and partner Margaret Stonehouse.

Fudd leaves behind countless friends, but two of his closest were Harvey Rue and Al Evans. More than just garage pals and rum-drinking buddies, they were constant sources of support, especially in recent months offering their friendship, strength, and help as he completed his final hot rod.

Although asbestosis ultimately claimed his life, the kindness and camaraderie of his friends will never be forgotten.

A memorial celebration will be held at the Red Deer Legion, 2810 – Bremner Ave., Red Deer AB on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m.
