Gerald Stanley "Gerry" Rybicky Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald “Gerry” Stanley Rybicky after a battle with cancer on October 6, 2025 in Red Deer, AB.

Gerry was born in Edmonton, AB, on November 24, 1960 to Olga Yagos and Stanley Rybicky. He grew up in Edmonton, attended and graduated from NAIT, and began work as a millwright in 1985 for Peacock. He worked there for many years before moving to Red Deer in 1999 to join Nova Chemicals, where he stayed until his retirement in 2020.

Gerry was an avid hockey fan and player. He played with the Stony Plain Flyers, the men’s hockey league, Burwha Bulls, and Temecula Blades, as #29 in his storied hockey career. But those that knew Gerry knew his favorite team was always the Chicago Blackhawks. When he wasn’t cheering on his ‘Hawks you could often find him at the Lake. He enjoyed cabin life and spending time at Long Lake where we made many wonderful memories quadding, snowmobiling, playing Bunnock, and sitting around the fire with a beer. He was a passionate fan of NHRA drag racing, NASCAR, and of course a weekly round of wings and beer post retirement with “the crew”.

Gerry and his family are greatly appreciative for all the care and compassion from the medical staff he encountered along his journey and from the home care team and The Lending Cupboard for the resources they provided supporting us along the way.

“In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years”

Gerry is survived by his wife Genene Rybicky; Daughter Amanda (Scott); grandchildren James and Jonathan Donald; sister Janet (Todd); nephew Owen Churko; beloved family pet Abby; and by the many members of his extended family. He is predeceased by his parents, Olga Yagos and Stanley Rybicky.

Condolences to Gerry’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Gerry Rybicky” in the subject line.
