Yvonne Faith Rawlings was born on March 3, 1937 to Gordon and Edith Taylor in Melfort, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm with all the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of that lifestyle. She was the 4th of 6 children, alongside two older brothers Elmore and Roland, an older sister Joan, a younger sister Grace and a younger brother Wesley. Her sister Eileen died as a baby.
Yvonne believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as her saviour at the age of 19 on November 18, 1956. Her faith carried her through life with all of its ups and downs. She lived out her faith in both her walk and her talk.
She worked for the Royal Bank first in Melfort, and then in Calgary. One of the responsibilities Yvonne and her colleagues carried out required the use of a handgun for security.
Yvonne married Marshall Rawlings in Calgary, Alberta on October 8, 1965. They had two children: Brent and Robin. They lived in Calgary where she worked as a homemaker. She was involved in the church they attended, West Hillhurst Gospel Hall, where she taught Sunday School. She also served in the kitchen during May long weekend conferences.
They left Calgary in 1981 to serve the Lord at Salem Acres located near Elnora, Alberta. Yvonne worked as the kitchen manager and chief chef for the private Christian school. She also prepared many meals during the annual weeks of Bible studies known as Salem Studies held in July and August for Christians primarily from North America.
Yvonne and Marshall moved to Beatty in 1994 to help care for her parents, Gordon and Edith Taylor. While in Beatty, she made many friends, baked for her neighbours and enjoyed coffee times with the ladies.
Yvonne and Marshall made many visits to Alberta to see their children through the years: son Brent (Sheryl) Rawlings in Calgary, their children: Hannah (Joseph) Tennant, Alexander, Katelyn, Hayley, and great granddaughter Mary; and daughter Robin (Allan) Chykerda in Red Deer.
Marshall preceded Yvonne on September 12, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Yvonne then moved to Red Deer in April 19, 2025, after the sale of her home in Beatty. She lived with Robin and Allan until her hospitalization in October. She also spent one weekend a month with Brent and Sheryl during this time, where she was able to see her favourite and only great-grand daughter Mary, who warmed up to great-grandma as the year progressed.
Yvonne is survived by her sister Grace (Ken) Campbell and numerous nieces and nephews.
She passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Friday, October 31, 2025. Many thanks to the caring nurses and doctors at both the Innisfail and Red Deer hospitals during her final weeks on this earth.
A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Taylorside Gospel Hall, Melfort, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please consider giving to the Missionary Service Committee General Fund through their website at https://msccanada.org/donee/msc-general-fund/. Condolences to Yvonne’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Yvonne Rawlings” in the subject line.
