Michael "Mike" Gawryluk Obituary

Michael “Mike” Gawryluk, a cherished long-time resident of Red Deer, passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on November 15, 2025.

Mike was born in Theodore, Saskatchewan, in 1934 to Frank and Sadie Gawryluk. Raised on a farm alongside his 11 siblings, he learned the value of hard work, resilience, and family from an early age. In 1970, Mike moved to Red Deer, where he and his beloved late wife, Grace, built a life rooted in love, community, and togetherness. He worked for Nestlé Canada until his retirement.

Mike was the warm, beating heart of his community. Known for his quick wit, natural charisma, and unwavering dedication to service, he touched countless lives. One of his greatest passions was his long-standing involvement with the ACT (Alberta Canadian Travelers). As a proud and active member for 70 years, he was a cornerstone of the organization—a welcoming, joyful presence to everyone he met. He also loved volunteering for the Western Parade Committee, enjoying the opportunity to visit many Alberta communities.

Sports were a lifelong source of pride and joy for Mike. From his own accomplishments, including being inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, to his steadfast support of his beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders, his enthusiasm never wavered. He was a social, fun-loving man who truly cherished time spent with friends, many of whom became like a second family.

Above all, Mike’s greatest joy and proudest achievement was his own family. A devoted family man, he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Grace (d. 2016), bringing comfort to those he leaves behind. He was a loving father to Dale and Shannon, who will forever miss his guidance, humour, and laughter. He was a proud grandpa to Curtis, Amanda, Kyle, and Haley, and a delighted great-grandpa to Ethan, Brooklyn, and Romeo, who were the light of his later years.

Mike was predeceased by his parents and ten of his siblings. He is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his sister Vern; his children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and the many friends he considered family. His legacy is one of joy, kindness, community, and unconditional love.

In accordance with Mike’s wishes, a small private family service will be held at a later date. Condolences to Mike’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Mike Gawryluk” in the subject line.
