Ron passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital with his wife and children at his side.
Ron was born October 6, 1948 in Eckville, AB. His family moved to the farm south of Red Deer in 1954. He graduated from Lindsay Thurber, then left to pursue studies in Architecture at UBC and U of M. He worked in Calgary, and then took an opportunity to go to the south of France to design and construct buildings at a Christian Youth Centre. He and Brenda met at the same youth centre and were married in 1974. Upon returning to Canada, he worked in Vancouver for a couple of years before moving to Calgary to pursue a Masters Degree at the U of C. Ron’s children, Christy and Stephen, joined the family, and after 10 years in Calgary, he moved back to the family farm where he lived until his passing.
He actively farmed for a few years but missed Architecture. He started working for Group 2 Architecture during the winter months, which ended up leading to full time work when his involvement in large projects increased. He worked on many projects, including the two high schools and the Collicutt Centre on 30 Ave, the Red Deer Hospital upgrades, Johnstone Public Health building, and many other projects.
He was passionate about his faith and was actively involved in every church he attended over the years.
His hobbies included photography, woodworking, reading, and playing saxophone. Day trips out the David Thompson Highway and into National Parks were always a highlight.
The family would like to thank Unit 32 for their compassionate care during his final days. Dr Kym Jim and the home dialysis staff have supported us greatly through the dialysis journey. Valorie has provided care and respite for the past several years and we have appreciated her so much.
Ron is survived by his wife Brenda (nee Jameson); daughter Christy Valyear (Sean); and his son Stephen Murdoch (Melanie); his five cherished grandchildren, Tyler Valyear, Jeremiah, Micah, Libby, and Samuel Murdoch; sisters Marlene Bernard (Denis) and Kathy Graham; nephews Justin and Michael; niece Erin; mother-in-law Belle Jameson; and many members of the extended Jameson family are saddened by his passing.
He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Jane Murdoch, his father-in-law Bruce Jameson and brother-in-law Bryan Jameson.
There will be a Memorial Service for Ron at a later date in 2026.
I lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Red Deer Regional Health Foundation – Dialysis unit. Condolences to Ron’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Ron Murdoch” in the subject line.
