Obituary of Fraser Frank Rutherford

With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Fraser Frank Rutherford, in Red Deer, Alberta, on March 28th 2024, after an unexpected and fast progressing battle with cancer, at the age of 72. He passed away at home in the early morning hours surrounded by his loved ones.

Born and raised in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, son of the late Harry Rutherford and Mary (MacKenzie) Rutherford. Fraser was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in building or “tinkering” as he would say, spending endless hours within the forest and with his hands in the earth gardening. His gentle presence and willingness to help others were his greatest traits and these were recognized by many.

He traveled from Eastern to Western Canada many times before following his children to Red Deer, Alberta where he lent his hands in raising his grandchildren, creating many cherished memories.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Beverly (Hewens) Rutherford and their children, Alfred Rutherford, Tyler (Roxanne) Rutherford, Jason (Danelle) Rutherford, and Julia (Barry) Rutherford; his grandchildren, Megan, Stevie, Makenzie, Brodie, Ashley, James, Abbigail, Dylan, Caleb, Jessica, Ethan, Taya, Deegan, and Makao; along with his great-grandchildren Dawson, Kinsley, and Hudson. He will also be remembered by his remaining sisters along with their families; Christy (Rutherford) Henley, Sylvia (Rutherford) Augustine, Rena (Rutherford) Archibald, and Ann (Rutherford) Chisholm. He was predeceased by his sister MaryAnne (Rutherford) Pruegger and brother Michael Rutherford.

A beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Fraser touched the hearts of all.

There will be no formal memorial service as Fraser requested to be cremated and returned to Middle Musquodoboit, where his children will organize a private final laying of his ashes. If desired, Memorial Donations in Fraser’s honor may be made to his daughter Julia Rutherford at juliaford117@gmail.com to aid his family in the travel costs to Nova Scotia. Condolences to Fraser’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Rutherford” in the subject line.
