Tressa Ruddock

Obituary of Tressa Lauretta Ruddock

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Ruddock of Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 94 years.  Laura was predeceased by her mother, Annie Fougere, her sister Irene Jellow, and her husband of 62 years Beverley Ruddock.  Laura leaves behind her children, daughter Beverly (Jan) Pedersen and children Leonard Hammond and Sharon Negrin, son Douglas (Anna) Ruddock and their children Mark (Alex Goulet) Ruddock, Philip (Lisa) Ruddock and Laura (Jackson) Snell, daughters Deborah Ruddock, Lori Ruddock and children Jarrod Goeseels, Evan(Gina) Goeseels, and Christina (Neil Lalonde) Goeseels, and daughter Linda (Scott) Key and their children Kyle (Chelsey) Key and Tyler (Delaena Calvert) Key.  Laura is also survived by her great grandchildren Linden and Oliver Philippson, Joshua and Sarah Ruddock, and Ellie and Reya Goeseels.

Laura was born in Mulgrave, Nova Scotia and moved to Truro, Nova Scotia with her sister Irene after the passing of her mother.  During wartime on a trip to Newmarket, Ontario while groceries were rationed, Laura was given an extra pound of butter at the till by a handsome clerk named Beverley whom she eventually wed.  With four young children they relocated in 1958 to Calgary, Alberta. After their fifth child started kindergarten, Laura went to work as a Switchboard Operator for the Calgary Inn (now Westin hotel) downtown. In 1978, they moved to Red Deer, Alberta where Laura finished out her career working in the Sears Catalogue department.  After retirement, they relocated to Okotoks, Ab and finally to Penhold, Ab.

Laura valued spending time with her family and was always one to tell it like it was, and she would often laugh until she cried. Some of her most favourite times were when her and Bev travelled abroad or golfed in Radium. She enjoyed knitting, doing crosswords and mostly playing cards with her family with a wine or beer and clamato by her side. She never turned down a chance to play crib, tonk or 500, and always for money, otherwise it wasn’t worth playing. She will be deeply missed and always in our memory.

Donations in Laura’s honour may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and support she received the last few years from Michener Extendicare Red Deer staff.  We are forever grateful.

As per Laura’s wishes there will be no formal service. Condolences to Laura’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net.  Arrangements in care of Meaningful Memorials Funeral Service, Red Deer, AB.  A locally owned funeral and cremation provider serving Red Deer and Central Alberta. 587-876-4944.
