Obituary of Arthur Julien Perrin
“Gone Fishin”
Surrounded by his loving family Arthur Julien Perrin, “Dad”, left his sojourn on earth to be reunited with his beloved wife “Marj” on January 25, 2022 at the age of 93 years.
Arthur Julien or affectionally known as “A.J." was born in St Claude Manitoba one of six children born to Sarah and Alzire Perrin. Dad was of a French Metis heritage, had a love for music, especially fiddling, and Aunty Mary's Baked Bannock.
Times were tough when dad was young. Dad at the age of three with “Butter” his dog in tow, chased a black bear out of the garden. The dog's actual name was “Buster’ which he later learned to pronounce.
His hero was his father “Alzire’, who taught him at the tender age of five to snare a rabbit, chop wood, and eventually carpentry which made it possible for the he and his dad to build the family log cabin together
Joining the army, he was the Mess Hall supervisor where he met a lovely young lady named Marj, who at once captured his heart. He joked that it was the only time he was boss. They went on to marry on June 20, 1949, then came …. Babies, babies and more babies. Six to be exact! Four boys and two girls. In search of a better life for his family, dad bravely moved his wife and children to Red Deer.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor and was playful and quick witted. His smile and his laughter were infectious, and people always liked being around him. Dad was a loving and dedicated parent. Tired after a long day at work he found the energy to play and be involved with his kids. Playing farm, risking his life eating Easy Bake Oven concoction cakes, encouraging theatre, and acting, an involved hockey dad and being a hunting and fishing partner, Art was always there for his kids. Dad was proud of all his children, encouraging all our accomplishments and encouraging us to challenge ourselves.
Dad worked as a butcher, maintenance supervisor, and even had a go on the oil rigs! Dad was the daytime supervisor and a night school student achieving his Mill Right papers just so he can better provide for his family.
A self-taught carpenter hobbyist and insistent that only the best Oak materials would do. He built tables, intricate roll-top desks, diamond willow canes and many delights for the granddaughters which included hope chests, doll houses and baby cradles and airplanes for the boys. Treasures for everyone.
Dad was an amazing, gifted individual always challenging himself to learn new skills and loved to teach and share his knowledge. He and mom loved to camp, fish and travel and explore with their frequent companion “Suzie Baby” Shih Tzu on mom's lap. Let the adventures begin! He and mom shared a 65-year love. Dad was predeceased by his son Terry, daughter in law Sandy, granddaughter Dani, and his wife Marj. We will miss the soft green eyes that smiled and held our hearts. Rest in Jesus’ Loving Arms,
Left to cherish his memory are Jan and Paul, Bruce and Kris, Murray, and Shelley, Twy and Bill, Rick, and Adrian; grandchildren; great grandchildren as well as numerous other family members.
