Suzanne McWhinnie

Obituary of Suzanne Elaine McWhinnie

It is with much love and compassion our family announces the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, & sister. On February 11th, 2023, mom, Suzanne, passed away at 57 years old at home in Innisfail Alberta. Suzanne was predeceased by her parents and two brothers.

Suzanne was born in Boguila, Africa into a missionary family. She took her early years of French education in Chad Africa. When her family moved to Alberta Canada, Suzanne took her schooling at Prairie High School in Three Hills and, in her later years, at Berean Bible College in Calgary. She also completed two years of nursing school at Foothills School of Nursing in Calgary.

Suzanne married Brian McWhinnie on October 4th, 1986, and joyfully celebrated 36 wonderful years of marriage. Brian and Suzanne purchased a home in Calgary and lived there for about 17 years. This is where they began raising their three children, Sarah, Kevin, and Meghan.

Suzanne was employed at GSL Chev City as the president’s secretary as well as in many hotels in Calgary as a desk clerk and auditor. She was involved in choirs, ladies’ groups, and children’s programs at Grace Baptist Church and Crossroads Community Church in Calgary.

In year 2000, Brian and Suzanne moved their family to Innisfail Alberta. Suzanne was employed at A&W as a supervisor and then at Innisfail Travel as the office secretary. She really enjoyed these jobs because she made many new friendships. Suzanne was a wonderful wife, homemaker, and mother as she helped raise 3 children with respect and love.

Suzanne and Brian loved traveling together. Their travels included places like New York City, an Alaskan cruise, camping, and spending time together at their recreational acreage, “Sunset Landing”, in Cynthia Alberta. As a family, we would often go camping together in Central Alberta with family and friends. We also went on many scenic road trips to B.C., Banff, Jasper, and “Highway to the Sun” in Montana.

Suzanne loved listening to Christian music and programs. She also loved reading, playing the piano, going to the mountains, visiting family and friends, and going to gospel concerts in Central Alberta and Calgary. Suzanne had a beautiful singing voice and loved the Lord and her family.

Suzanne will be lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband Brian McWhinnie; daughter, Sarah (Kyle) Miller; son, Kevin (Honey) McWhinnie; daughter, Meghan McWhinnie; and three beautiful granddaughters, Avonlea Miller, Eliza Miller, and Isabella McWhinnie.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Innisfail Alliance Church March 4th, 2023 @ 2pm. The family will hold a graveside Celebration of Life together at a special date in the future. If friends and family desire, a memorial contribution can be made to: International Justice Mission Canada, PO Box 336 STN B. London, Ontario, N6A 4W1, or to the Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre, 5116 - 47th Street, Red Deer, Alberta, T4N 1R9.
