Obituary of Brian Wesley Smith
Brian Wesley Smith of Innisfail passed away, at the age of 70, in his home on March 4th, 2023. Born March 10th 1952 in Kamloops, Brian was the son of John Wesley and Irma Clara (Wohlleben) Smith and brother to his deceased sister Carol Ann McManus (Smith).
Brian grew up on a farm in Surrey BC where he learned the value of hard work at a young age. In his early adult years, he spent time living in rural Whitehorse where he formed many great memories and spawned a few big fish tales. As an avid outdoors man Brian loved to fish and to play softball. During the 80's, Smith was a minor league woman's slow pitch coach in Victoria. He loved sports of all kinds but especially loved the boring ones like nascar racing.
Brian was a well liked, good natured and kind man who was loved by all who knew him. Smith spent many years as a skilled drywaller and taper. He met many of his life long friends in this field and had many funny stories to tell of his work antics. Later in life Brian drove trucks, helped out at the local Salvation Army store alongside his wife Denise, and spent summers working at the David Thompson Resort.
32 years ago, Brian met the love of his life Denise (Milne) Smith and the two were married on Sept 21, 1996. They met in Lake Cowichan BC and later moved to Sylvan Lake Alberta and then to Innisfail where they still resided at the time of Smith's passing. Denise and Brian were a tight knit couple for all these years, the loss of Brian's presence will be felt for years to come.
Brian is survived by his wife Denise (Milne) Smith; children Karen (Mel), Catherine (Steve), Jules (Andrew), Trina (Darrell), and Jessica (Raymond); and by his grandchildren Jennifer, Mel Jr, Kirsten, Caleb, Tristan, Brandon, Jordan, Austin, and Tori.
No formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to your local Salvation Army.
Condolences to Brian’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Smith” in the subject line.
