Obituary of Ruby Margaret Linklater

Ruby Margaret Linklater (nee: Williams) passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Hospice on May 31, 2023. Ruby was born to Hilda and Arthur Williams on June 18, 1941 at the family home in Newmarket, Ontario.

Upon graduation from Newmarket High School, her first job, and 35 year career, was as a teller with various Toronto Dominion banks. In 1972 she transferred to Red Deer, where she met and married Robert (Bob) Linklater. After leaving her banking career she was employed as a teacher’s assistant at the Pine Hill Hutterite Colony School.

Ruby’s leisure activities included handicrafts, gardening, calligraphy and caring for their menagerie of family pets. She was also a skater with the senior’s skating club. Family gatherings, barbeques, and games of cribbage were favourite pastimes.

Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her sister Nancy (Len) Schmode; her sisters-in-law Irene Crawford, Betty (Ed) McRobbie, Margaret Linklater and Jenny Linklater; aunt Ruth Buck; step-family June and Peer Norgaard and Don Pinder, and their extended family; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in Alberta, Ontario, Yukon, and Australia. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Linklater; her parents Hilda and Arthur Williams; and by many extended family members.

As per Ruby’s wishes, no service is to be held, but she will remain forever in our hearts. If so desired, memorial tributes may be made out to a charity of the donor’s choosing. Condolences to Ruby’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Linklater” in the subject line.
