Iris Scott

Obituary of Iris Jeanette Scott

Iris Jeanette Scott was born in Edmonton, Alberta on April 11, 1957, and adopted to her loving parents Bill and Irma Dirsten. Sadly, Iris passed away peacefully after a short but mighty battle with cancer on June 11, 2023 at the Red Deer Hospice, holding the hand of her eldest daughter.

Iris spent most of her childhood and youth on a farm near the Hamlet of Leslieville, Alberta. She was a figure skater, loved farm life and animals, enjoyed riding horses, and was actively involved in the 4H Club. Her favorite place as a youth and young woman was enjoying time at her family's cabin on Crimson Lake, where she loved to water ski and relax with her family by her side.

Iris married and had two girls with Morris MacDougall. Although they later divorced, they remained special friends and excellent co-parents. Iris was incredibly proud of her two daughters, Jennifer and Jamie.  She admired both of her children for their own strengths, and she loved to spoil both of them along with her grandchildren. Iris would help her family whenever they needed her but was also known for her kindness and open heart, willingness to befriend and help anyone in need.

In August of 2000, Iris married Robert Scott and together they enjoyed live music and dancing to country western, as well as  playing with the many dogs they raised through the years. Iris worked at Safeway for over 15 years and enjoyed the friendships she made along the way.  Iris found her greatest pleasure in watching her six grandkids participate in their various recreational activities. Iris was an avid volunteer within the community, she could be found at rodeos, soup kitchens, winter/summer games, marathons and beyond, giving herself through volunteering to whatever event needed support.  Iris also served on a mission to Romania in 2004 where she helped build homes and cared for children in the nurseries. Iris was always willing to help others with her time.

Iris is survived by her husband Robert; her daughters Jennifer (Brad) Bahler and Jamie (Colin) Fisher; her grandkids Isaac, Abbigail, Nathaniel, William, Benjamin, and Madeline. As well as her dear friends Trevor and Cathie and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A service for Iris will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Leslieville Community Centre, 210 - 2 Avenue, Leslieville AB.

Following the service everyone is also invited to a brief interment service at the Leslieville Cemetery. Lunch will be served directly after the graveside service back at the Leslieville Community Hall where we will join to celebrate the life of our mother, wife, friend and loved one.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in Iris’s name to Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 - Arnot Avenue, Red Deer AB T4R 3S6.

Condolences to Iris’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Scott” in the subject line.
