Obituary of Donna Georgene Llewellyn

Donna Georgene Llewellyn passed away peacefully on Sunday evening April 23rd at the Red Deer Hospice, where she enjoyed exceptional care, surrounded by family and friends. On this very evening a stunning aurora borealis lit up the sky.

Born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, on January 29, 1944, she was the eldest daughter of Kathleen and George Swan.

A loving and devoted mother, wife, sister, grandmother (Grammy Lew), and friend. Predeceased by her husband, Grant Llewellyn, she is survived by her brother Bob (Donna); four children Sean (Rania), Stephanie, Greg, and Chris; her six grandchildren Lucas (22), Abby (19), Emily (19), Sofia (19), Zach (17), and Ali (14). A special mention to lifelong friends; Ju stanhope, Pat Smith and Liz Bayne.

After graduating from New Glasgow High School, Donna attended training at the Pathology Lab in Halifax, NS and later worked as a Lab Technician in Healthcare.

While working in Halifax, she met Grant Llewellyn at a TUNS University dance. They were happily married for over 50 years. Family was everything to Donna and she too much pride and joy in raising her family full time.

As a volunteer, she was involved with the United Church, the UCW of Canada and the 2019 Red Deer Winter Games. Bridge with close friends was another favourite pastime. Weekly high stake games were played where prize money could reach a staggering $3 or $4 in change. Their motto was play big or go home. Baking was another passion, to the delight of family and friends. This included the famous Llewellyn homemade chip dip and her amazing spring rolls at Christmas. She also loved spending time in her garden including her yearly task of growing sweet peas.

Donna lived a full and rich life. She was a kind, selfless and loving person who saw the good in all. This precious soul will be dearly missed. A service will be held September 9th at 11am at the Sunnybrook United Church, 12 Stanton St, Red Deer, Alberta.
