Obituary of James Michael Kelly

With broken hearts the family of James (Jim) Michael Kelly of Red Deer, Alberta, announces his passing on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 74 years after a hard-fought, nine-year battle with Cancer.

 

Jim was born in Ireland in 1949 and was the youngest of 8 children, growing up on the family acreage in Shanagolden. He met the love of his life in 1971 and was married to Janet Kelly for over 51 years. Jim and Janet and their two young sons immigrated to Canada in 1979 to Newmarket, Ontario before moving to Red Deer, Alberta in 1981. Jim had various jobs throughout Central Alberta until he became a realtor in 1985, where he had a successful career until his retirement in 2014. Jim loved to travel, making frequent trips to Phoenix, various places throughout the Caribbean, and back home to Ireland.

 

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet Kelly; sons Brendan Kelly, and Michael Kelly (Jo-Ann) and their children Kendra, Ava, Joshua, and Jamison; brother Tom Kelly; as well as by his sisters Mary Kilmartin, Eileen Hallett and Theresa Hanley; brother-in-law Michael O’Brien (Janet); as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, both in Canada and Ireland. Jim was predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Kelly; his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Eileen O’Brien; brothers Pat, Jack and Michael Kelly.

 

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Red Deer Cancer Center for the wonderful care Jim received over the past nine years. Also, to the Red Deer Hospice for the love and care they provided for Jim and his family.

 

A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish, 6 McMillan Ave. Red Deer, AB, on Friday August 11, at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Red Deer Hospice Society, through their website at www.reddeerhospice.com.
