Obituary of Walter Edward Irwin

Walter Edward Irwin of Red Deer, AB passed away at Villa Marie Covenant Care on September 6, 2023 at the age of 93 years.

 

Walter who strongly preferred to go by the first name of Ed was born in Didsbury on April 19, 1930 to George and Angeline Irwin on the family’s farm in the Rosebud District. He lived in Calgary, Grand Prairie and finally settled in Red Deer for almost five decades.

 

Ed drove milk trucks in his early teen yrs. from Didsbury to Calgary. When he moved to Calgary he worked as an attendant for a BA Oil service station. He transitioned to a traveling sales rep. for numerous dairy farm equipment companies servicing most of Canada and a few of the northern United States for the majority of his adult life. Ed was also a very active member of the Red Deer chapter of the A.C.T. where he helped raise money for special needs for the handicapped and seniors in the Red Deer area. He enjoyed curling, golfing, and camping with the other members and made some lifelong friends.

 

Ed is survived by daughter Terri (Wayne) Irwin; son’s Greg (Pat) Irwin, Brent (Kim) and Kevin (Helen) Olsen; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren (known); sister-in-law Jan (Donald) Irwin; nieces Heather (Ernie) Steckly, Darlene (Mike) Jones, Lori (Aaron) Larry and nephew Mike (Vangie) Irwin. Ed was predeceased by his parents George and Angeline; spouse Serena Olsen; son Vern; brother Donald and sister Verla (Ken) Sherick.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held in the auditorium at Michener Extendicare, 12 - Michener Blvd, Red Deer, AB on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to any special need’s organization in the Red Deer area. Condolences to Ed’s family may be emailed to meaningful@telus.net. Please indicate “Irwin” in the subject line.
