Obituary of Donald Grant Patton

Donald Grant Patton of Bentley, Alberta, passed away at the Lacombe Long Term Care Center on September 15, 2023, at the age of 68 years.

Grant was born February 2, 1955, in Red Deer, Alberta. For his early upbringing, he lived in Red Deer for 11 years, then Olds for 3 years. In 1969, Grant along with his parents and brother owned and operated Patton’s Place Confectionary, in Lacombe AS WELL AS Patton’s Place General Store in Gull Lake. Grant attended Lacombe composite high school, where he would meet his future wife, Lynn Wilkes. His high school passion was gymnastics and in 1971 and 1972 he placed first and second, respectively. Grant spent his time after high school working a selection of different jobs. For a short time, he worked as a tow truck driver for Reg’s Auto Wreckers, spent a brief period in the funeral profession, he trained as a Red Seal Chef, spent some time in the Lacombe Fitness Center, and was with Provincial Highways for a while even attending Soils school.

Grant loved hunting, fishing, and riding several styles of bicycles including unicycles, tadpole recumbent trikes, regular bikes, and fat bikes. He also had a love for off-road motorcycles trikes, quads, and his Harley motorcycle. Grant spent time in a ski patrol group and loved to water ski.

Grant married Lynn Wilkes March 8th, 1987, and raised five children together. They were the owners and operators of Bentley Cycle and Trading Post for 22 years. Grant battled Lyme disease from 2007 – 2009, then was blessed with an 8-year remission until 2017, when unfortunately, his health went down again for six and a half years.

Grant enjoyed his 25 years ushering for his church. He would have been a member of the Canadian Baptist Bible Church for 38 years, next month. Grant had a heart for missions. He had the privilege of going on a mission trip to Japan for a month in 2005, with his wife Lynn.

Grant will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Lynn Patton; two sons, Matthew (Lizzy) Patton, and Samuel Patton; three daughters, Tami-Jo Shaw, Jana-Lee (Alex) Buchan, and Tirzah (Jim) Adrian; three in-law children; twelve beautiful grandchildren; and his mother-in-law Marilyn Wilkes.

Grant was predeceased by his father, Brock Patton; mother, Viola Patton; and his brother, Doug Patton.

One of Grant's greatest Joy's in his life was his 12 grandchildren.  He was able to meet them and hold them all before his passing. This was a man that loved his family and church family with everything he had! The outpouring of his love will be dearly missed! Grant Loved his Saviour, The Lord Jesus Christ and knew because of his Lord's sacrifice on Calvary's Cross he would spend eternity in Heaven with Him and with so many who had gone before! That was his heart’s desire for each and every one of you! He is now Resting with The Faithful One!
