David Lauscher

Obituary of David John Lauscher

In loving memory, we announce the peaceful passing of David John Lauscher on Sept 15th at the age of 76 at the Red Deer Hospice.

Born in Saskatoon, Sask., David was one of 20 children born to Grace and Joe Lauscher. He grew up in the small town of Colonsay, Sask. where he met, and fell in love with, Victoria Porter. At age 24, the pair wed, and welcomed three children – sons Robin and Ryan (Leah Rasmussen), and daughter Regan (Landon Hollman). Work and opportunity eventually brought them to Red Deer, where they put down roots and raised their family.

Inquisitive, industrious, and adventurous, David enjoyed many types of work, including hard rock mining in Alaska, construction, and farm work. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to start many small businesses, but David found his true passion in the Alberta Oilfield as a Drilling Fluids Consultant, and became affectionately known as “The Mudman”.

Beyond hunting, skydiving, bowling, and the Elks Club, David enjoyed big trucks, fast cars, playing crib, good music, and his various collections. He was the life of the party – notorious for telling a great story or hilarious joke with his quick wit and comedic timing. The bbq master, David loved to cook and host an array of gatherings. In his travels, David was most fond of Italy and Iran, and was honoured to be selected as a torchbearer for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

But above all, Davids greatest joy was simply spending time with his kids, 10 grandkids, 4 great grandkids, and many grandpets! His authentic laugh, infectious smile, and enveloping hugs provided constant love and comfort.

Inside his gentle heart and gracious soul was a tenacity and courage that leaves a legacy. He will inspire us forever.

We love you Papa… and thank-you. “See you in the stars”.

In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be a private celebration of life held at a later date.
