Obituary of Mary Katherine Green

Kay (Katherine) Green (nee Lema) passed away April 12, 2024, surrounded by loving family and compassionate care givers.

Kay was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Leon and Katie Lema (nee Goodman).

She grew up on a farm east of Villeneuve, Alberta. When her brother got married and took over the farm in 1945, Kay moved to Edmonton with her parents.

Kay had a long career in nursing: Grande Prairie; Edmonton General: Associate Clinic; Red Deer General and Auxiliary Hospital; Victorian Order of Nurses; and finished at Home Care in Red Deer.

While in Grande Prairie Kay met Terry Green at a house party. Three months later they were married – Sept. 3, 1955. They were married for 59 years.

Kay’s recent goal was to walk 4 miles or 10, 000 steps every day. It was what kept her alive for her retirement years, especially 2020.

Kay leaves behind her daughter Kathryn Bayne (Rob); son Jim Green (BettyAnn); daughter Tara Hammond (Linda); 4 grand children: Kathryn (Matt), Michelle (Troy), Nathan, Aidan; 2 step-grandsons: Michael, Trevor (Angela); 4 great-grandchildren; Pyper, London, Justice, Jersey; 5 step-great-grandchildren: Mason, Paxton, Olivia, William, Lucas.

Auntie Katie will be missed by her many nieces and nephews from the Lema family.
