It is with profound sadness and much love that the family of Harvey Downes announces his passing on September 20, at the age of 79.

Harvey was born and grew up in Forestburg, AB, where he attended school and joined the Air Cadets. Soon after high school he joined the RCAF, where he was stationed at Greenwood, Nova Scotia. He later tried his hand at different occupations, but excelled as a realtor, builder, and building manager. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Edmonton and the Lion’s Club in Lumby, BC.

Harvey enjoyed travelling, building, renovating, and spending time with family and friends. He was a gentle, kind man; generous in spirit. He was loved and respected by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Harvey will be lovingly missed by Shirley, his wife and best friend of the past 35 years; his daughter Kristine; step daughter Michelle; step sons, Lyle (Lidia), Guy (Laura); grandchildren, Paul (Kristy), Emily, Travis, Justin, Marc (Michaël), Shaun, Luke (Nicole), and Rachael; great grandchildren Van, Lyric, Rey, and Charlie; brother Dennis (Janet); brother-in-law Ron (Carol); nephew Jeff (Tanya); nieces, Susan (Keiran), Barb (Josh), and Corinna; as well as by numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents Aldine and Andy Downes.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Red Deer Regional Hospital for their special care and compassion for our dear Harvey.

A private service to celebrate Harvey’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Harvey’s name to the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, 3942 50a Ave, Red Deer, AB T4N 4E7.
