Obituary of Hazel Ellen Wilson
Hazel Ellen Wilson of Red Deer, passed away at Taylor View Towers in Red Deer, Alberta on August 16, 2024 at the age of 96 years.
Hazel was born in Hammond, Indiana on October 13, 1927. The third of six children of William & Martha Vanhorn. In 1926, the family relocated to Evergreen, a farming community in Alberta. After completing her schooling, Hazel remained on the farm to help look after her baby sister. She met Fred Wilson at a dance & they married in 1944. At first their home was a converted granary, then a log house that Fred built the next year. In 1963, they moved into a new house on the farm, where they lived for 52 years. Hazel was happy being a farm wife, being on the farm was one of her fondest memories. Hazel loved music, animals, flowers, and was very proud of her yard and flower beds. She was also interested in painting and made large portraits of her dog Poppy, and Fred's horse Trigger.
After Fred’s passing in 1997, Hazel moved to a condo in the Parkvale district in Red Deer, then to Parkvale Lodge. Hazel was a loving mother to her son, Fred, a caring grandmother to Tanner and Fraser Wilson, a loving sister to Judy of Bowden, and a caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel is lovingly remembered by her son Fred (Carolynn); 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, and sister Judy. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Fred, and brothers Jack, William, Daniel, and Edward. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the Central Alberta Humane Society, 4505 - 77 Street, Red Deer, AB, T4P 2J1.
