Obituary of Carol Rosetta Mary Geary
CAROL ROSETTA MARY GEARY, age 80, surrounded by love from her children and grandchildren, passed away on September 30th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a devoted mother to her three children - her eldest daughter Kisha (Ken); her son in the middle Daniel, and youngest daughter Aisha; and a beloved Nan to all her grandchildren, Justice (Beau), Jamaica (Ross), Callum (Brian) Emmanuel (Kora), and Lynisha (Rayshell). Carol was a remarkable woman known for her strength, resilience, and the profound love she shared with her family and friends. Her spirit and outlook on life were an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carol was born on December 25th, 1943, in Lougheed, Alberta, spending time as a youth growing up on the family’s farm and moving with the family to a house in town. Eventually, she moved to Edmonton, where she built a life full of family, creativity, and service to others. Before having children, Carol pursued a meaningful career in healthcare as a nurse, specializing in long-term and palliative care. She dedicated herself to the compassionate care of her patients, touching countless lives throughout her career. Her nurturing nature and compassion made her well-suited for this role, and it became a part of the foundation for the kindness she extended to others throughout her life. After starting her family, she shifted to a new career path, working as a cashier. For 25 years, she proudly served as a personnel manager, all while employed at Walmart in Red Deer, where her strong work ethic, leadership, and caring spirit were greatly appreciated by colleagues and customers alike.
While in Edmonton, Carol embraced a unique and memorable experience when she performed as an "Eskipet" in the Edmonton Eskimos' halftime shows. This performance was one of the highlights of her early years in Edmonton and a memory she would fondly recall throughout her life. Her adventurous spirit didn’t stop there. She traveled extensively with her brother Ralph, sharing countless adventures and creating cherished memories on their journeys together. One such memory that she spoke of fondly was when she and Ralph took their younger sister Shirley to Los Vegas. Getting to hold Elvis Presley’s hand along with Shirley as he sang from the stage to them. A huge highlight in her life that she would remember fondly often. Carol and Ralph’s travels took them to many beautiful places, allowing them to strengthen their sibling bond while experiencing the wonders of the world. Ralph remained a constant in her life, and their relationship was one of deep respect and mutual care until his passing.
Carol was a dedicated mother who had a special bond with each of her children. Her eldest daughter, Kisha, shared many long walks, painting, and gardening as well as; trips with her mother which were filled with laughter, reflections, and deep conversations. With her youngest daughter, Aisha she kept alive the adventures as they enjoyed exploring new restaurants and cuisine, sharing long, meaningful visits, and many heartfelt talks over the phone, strengthening their close bond. Her son, Daniel shared a unique connection with her, as they spent countless hours together watching Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Cowboys games, which often coincided with the creation of many of her paintings. Her love for each of them was unique, yet her equity and nurturing spirit were ever-present. Carol was devoted to her children and was especially proud of her role as a Nan to all her grandchildren and Great-grand children. She treasured every moment spent with them, and their love for her will live on in their hearts.
A woman of many passions, Carol was an avid gardener and painter, with an impressive knowledge of plants and a deep love for nature. Carol spent countless hours tending to her garden, her love of birds and animals was a constant in her life, especially her beloved cats: Prometheus, Morris, Jewels, Stewart, and Floki. Carol’s extensive botanical knowledge was evident in both her garden and her art; where she found peace and creativity.
Carol was also a dedicated fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Edmonton Oilers, often watching games with her son, which became another treasured connection between them. Her love of sports was matched by her passion for science fiction and movies, plants, and a deep love for nature, which brought her joy, comfort and inspiration over the years.
Her family was her world, and she brought warmth, joy, and unconditional love to every relationship she fostered. She was an inspiration to many, not only for her vibrant outlook on life but also for her infectious “make the best of things” attitude that carried her through every challenge with grace and strength. Throughout her life, Carol remained strong in the face of adversity, battling cancer with courage and resilience. Even in her final days, she continued to inspire those around her with her strength and determination.
Carol is survived by her three children, Kisha (Ken); Daniel, and Aisha; grandchildren, Justice (Beau), Jamaica (Ross), Callum (Brian), Emmanuel (Kora), and Lynisha (Rayshell); and by her seven great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her love and wisdom. Carol also leaves behind her brothers George and Chris and loving younger sisters Elizabeth and Shirley. Carol was predeceased by her brother Ralph, and sister Alice. Carol leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and love that will be remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of her life will be held on November 1st, 2024, at the Pioneer's Lodge 4324-46A Avenue Red Deer, at 1:00 pm. Doors will open at Noon.
