Rick Lindsay

Obituary of Rick William Lindsay

Rick Lindsay was born on October 27, 1954, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Rose and Arthur Lindsay. He passed away on November 17, 2024, in Red Deer, Alberta, at the age of 70.

Rick spent his childhood in Kenaston, Saskatchewan, where winters were filled with hockey and summers with swimming - cherished memories that shaped his early years. In the mid-70s, he ventured west to Alberta, beginning a lifelong career in the oilfield. Starting in Medicine Hat, he later moved north to Zama City, a pivotal stop on his journey. It was in Zama where he met the love of his life, Sue. They married in High Level in June, 1982, and shared 42 wonderful years together.

Rick and Sue built a life filled with love and adventure, raising their three children - Lori, Nicole, and Trevor - in High Level. Rick balanced his demanding work in Zama with a vibrant family life, spending his time off at the golf course, curling rink, or camping and fishing with loved ones. In 2004, Rick began working closer to home with Husky Energy in the Haig and Caribou fields southwest of High Level. During this period, Rick shared his extensive oilfield knowledge and experience with colleagues. Along the way, he forged lifelong friendships that he deeply valued and cherished.

In 2015, Rick and Sue relocated to Red Deer to be closer to their family, especially their beloved grandchildren, Kai and Keilyn. Though his health prompted his retirement in 2019, Rick embraced the slower pace, often challenging his grandchildren to lively games of crib and backgammon.

Rick’s love of history, music, and good conversation made him a natural host for family and friends passing through Central Alberta. He found joy in reminiscing and sharing stories, keeping the bonds of family and friendship strong.

Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Sue; his children, Lori, Nicole (Daniel and his children Tierra, Drayden, and Darian), and Trevor; grandchildren, Kai, and Keilyn; brothers, Dave and Jamie; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory. He is predeceased by his parents, Rose and Arthur and by his brothers, Bruce and Doug.

Rick’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and a deep connection with those around him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
