Obituary of Gary Lawrence Hunter
Gary Lawrence Hunter of Red Deer AB has lost his battle with cancer after a long and courageous fight. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 7, 2024, at The Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre at the age of 63 years. Gary was a loving son and brother, cherished uncle and dear friend to many.
Gary was born on May 17, 1961, in Red Deer, Alberta to Don and Jean (Mellick) Hunter. Gary was the second of five children with his twin siter not long behind him.
He attended Parkland School and then Central School and at the young age of 17 he kickstarted a 47- year long career at the Parkland Mall in Red Deer as a Custodian. Throughout his career Gary got to know so many people and one of his greatest joys in life was going out for coffee with his friends and co-workers. Gary always took the time out to talk to anyone who would stop and say “Hi,” to him and before you knew it that quick hello would turn into a forty-five-minute conversation. No matter where you went with him, it seemed that Gary would always run into someone that he knew. Gary was full of life, friendly and was willing to help anyone who needed it.
Gary loved to listen to music, his favorite band was Meatloaf. He enjoyed watching Hockey and rooting for The Edmonton Oilers. He enjoyed going to Fairmont hot springs with his family and suitably, his favorite city to visit was Las Vegas as the lucky guy even won $21,000 on a scratch off once. Gary will be missed by all.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Don and Jean Hunter and his niece, Sherri Kalan. He is survived by his oldest sister Yvette (Mark) Kalan, his twin sister Carla Hunter, his youngest sister Donna (Greg) Epp and younger brother Wes (Carolyn) Hunter as well as several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
In respecting Gary’s wishes, no service will be held.
The family would like to invite you to sign your condolences at the Parkland Mall in Red Deer by the administration office near the food court on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 10 am- 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed in memory of Gary to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
