Obituary of Alexander MacDonald Robertson
Alexander MacDonald Robertson of Red Deer, AB passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on October 25, 2024 at the age of 84 after complications due to a fall. He was surrounded by those who loved him.
Alec was born on February 13, 1940 in Cape Breton, NS to Christine (MacDonald) and David Robertson, and was a proud Cape Bretoner.
He graduated from the University of New Brunswick in Mechanical Engineering in 1961. During university his summers were spent working in the mines and on the construction of the Cabot Trail. Upon graduation he joined Union Carbide in Montreal where he met his loving wife-to-be, Sandra. Transferred to Red Deer in 1981 they made their home here. Upon his retirement in 1991 he became involved in the Canadian Chemical Producers’ Association and travelled extensively.
Alec was also a dedicated member of the Kiwanis Club of Canada. He was a lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Alouettes and Montreal Expos. He was a man of strong faith and held many positions at St Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church in Red Deer AB.
Alec was predeceased by his parents Christine and David Robertson. He is survived by his sisters, Anne (Douglas), brother, Tom (Sheila) and sister, Sharon (Jim-deceased). He was very much loved by his nieces, nephews, “adopted families” and dear friends; Andrew d’Allmen, Lloyd and Tawni d’Allmen (Logan and Brooke), James Robertson, Shona (Rob) Patterson, Cheryl and Andrew Duncan (Cayla and Alexander), Sarah Harbidge (Rod), Lynne Robertson, David Robertson and Sandra Organ (Thomas, Christopher and Yvonne), “Brother” Laso. Precious friends Sandy Richard, Julie and Geritt Patton (Vaughn and Miller), Krista Kusmire and Darren Cabelka, the Duce Family. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Paul d’Allmen.
A celebration of life will be held in Red Deer in the Spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to St Leonard’s on the Hill Anglican Church, 4241 44 Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 1H3.
