Obituary of Paul Corwin Ajas  (Jr.)

With great sadness, we announce that Paul Corwin Ajas passed away on June 23, 2020 at the Red Deer Hospice at the age of 74 years.

Paul was born in Edson, Alberta on June 17, 1946. He grew up on a farm near Peers, AB and attended a one-room school. In 1962, the family moved to Lacombe AB, where he attended Lacombe and Lindsay Thurber High School, graduating in 1966. Paul then went on to complete the Parts Technician Apprenticeship program and received an Alberta Journeyman Certificate. He moved to Red Deer and worked at Travelaire for 32 years as a parts manager. After retirement, Paul worked for the Superstore in the bulk department for the past ten years.

Paul, known as the “Guitar Man”, had a great passion for rock ’n' roll and country music. He became a very skilled lead guitar player. Paul and his good buddy Dee Hodgkinson played for many special events and recently played at senior care homes. He also had a genuine interest in older model cars and enjoyed working on them. This then led to an interest in putting together model cars kits and collecting diecast cars. Dedication to work was an important priority in his life as he never missed a day of work in 32 years. Paul had a witty sense of humour, tolerance and a kind spirit.

Paul is survived by his loving partner, Lydia Fox, and former wife Kathy Ajas and their three children Duane (Wendy) of Nanaimo,  Dale (Nathalie) and Shelly Bruggeman (Noel) of Victoria;  grandchildren Zoe, Jacob and Skyla; sister Jeanette (Mike Van Hyfte) of Lacombe; niece Christine (Myles Howe) and family of Lacombe; nephew Jason (Sara Van Hyfte) and family of Camrose, as well as  numerous cousins and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul Ajas Sr., and his mother Gertrude Ajas.

A private family interment service will be held. Due to the current COVID-19 social gathering restrictions, a celebration of Paul’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced once known.

Thank you to the many doctors, nurses and other staff that cared for Paul during his lengthy illness. We also appreciated the wonderful end-of-life care at the Red Deer Hospice.
